Hope Valley Adventure Film Festival

27th Feb 2010

Hope Valley College, Derbyshire

Adventure Activities

Unlike other film festivals we offer activities to stretch the body between the films.  The sports hall will be open from approx 11:30am to 6:30pm for the following activities, open to all abilities, just turn up and have a go.

(Note that a parental consent form will be required by all under 18's participating in these events.  If parents are not there on the day please make sure you collect one from the college in advance, get it signed, and bring it with you on the day.)

Fun Bouldering Competition.
A fun, all comers bouldering event will take place during the day in the Sports Hall with a series of problems set on the existing climbing wall structures and 2 portable bouldering panels kindly provided by Highball Climbing.   The problems will range from very easy to very hard, there really is something for everyone, from "I haven't climbed before" to "I climb 5 times a week and think I'm really good!".  The existing climbing wall has been stripped, cleaned and re-set with added volumes and a range of upward and traverse problems while the guys from Highball Climbing have set harder problems on their overhanging panels.

The bouldering competition is split into 4 age groups, up to 10, 11 - 13, 14 - 16 and 17+, with male and female prizes in each group.  Bring your climbing shoes and have a go.  There will also be a few pairs of loan shoes available on the day.

The bouldering competition prizes are:-

WINNERS

1st Place Male and Female in each age category will win a technical coaching course with Tom Randall at The Edge climbing wall in Sheffield.

RUNNERS UP

2nd place Male and Female in each age category will win a Wild Country Petite Bloc chalk bag and belt.

Mini Adventure Race
This is an ideal way to stretch the mind and body between films.  Simply turn up at the sports hall and enter as a single, pair or group, and navigate your way round a short course of hidden checkpoints.  Speed isn't everything in this test of navigation and route finding!

Mountain Bike Trail
HVAFF marks the opening of the new Hope Valley College Mountain Bike Trail.  HVC is the first UK state school to open a purpose built mountain bike trail and it will be open on the day for supervised use.  Bring your bike to have a go, or borrow one of the 2 loan bikes available on site.
